The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted two patents today related to blockchain and domain names.

Unstoppable Domains obtained patent number 11,558,344 for Resolving blockchain domains (pdf). It describes ways to resolve blockchain domain names in a browser.

The company applied for the patent in September 2021 but had filed a provisional patent application in September 2020.

I believe it is the first patent Unstoppable Domains has secured. It has a pending application for Blockchain registry scaling (pdf).

China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), China’s domain registry provider, obtained patent number 11,558,343 for Method and apparatus for resolving domain name based on co-governance chain (pdf). It describes a way to resolve domain names based on a “co-governance chain” not entirely reliant on IANA.

CNNIC filed for the patent in 2020. The organization has filed other blockchain patent applications.
