Radix reports solid premium domains sales and renewals in H2 2022
New registration revenue was down, but overall revenue held steady.
Radix has released its H2 2022 Premiums Report, disclosing data about how its premium domains sold in the second half of last year.
Overall, registrars grossed $3.76 million from premium registrations and renewals of its 10 top level domain names. That’s nearly identical to what it grossed in the first half of the year.
$1.02 million of that was from new registrations, down from $1.28 million in the first half of the year. This is unsurprising, given a general slowdown in the domain market as 2022 progressed.
The remaining $2.74 million was renewals. Radix has a high/high registration model for premium domains, meaning registrants pay the higher fee for both the registration and renewal.
.Tech, .store and .space led the way on new registrations, and .tech, online and .store had the most renewal revenue, respectively.
The first-year renewal rate was 62%. Premium domains up for renewal a second time renewed at 80%, and 90% for third and subsequent renewals.
GoDaddy was responsible for 38% of the new premium registrations.
All dollar figures include the registrar’s markup. When unknown, it’s assumed to be 30%.
