If the exact-match .com domain name for your brand is already taken, what do you do? In some instances, companies settle for an alternative domain extension, but in other cases, businesses opt for a rebrand.

A young startup has chosen to rebrand with a standout domain name, moving away from a brand name in which the exact-match .com is taken, towards one with an exact-match .com that the startup has secured.

Pylon, founded in 2021, is a financial planning company that helps clients reach specific goals, such as retiring early or buying a $1 million house.

The service, which is available for an annual fee, contains a platform that utilizes financial app connections to continually analyze a client’s finances to help realize goals. Those app connections include Wells Fargo, Robinhood, and Coinbase, feeding your data into Pylon’s system to give you a financial analysis.

Pylon has decided to rebrand and has secured an ultra-premium domain name to boost its fortunes.

Pylon is now Range and has secured Range.com, transitioning from its original domain, HelloPylon.com. The move could be down to the fact that Pylon.com, currently used by an established AI brand, was off the market.

The Range.com domain moved from a privacy-protected SafeNames account to a privacy-protected Google Domains account in a move first spotted by Jamie Zoch on Twitter.

While Range hasn’t disclosed any funding, it does list Garrett Camp’s Expa as one of its investors. Camp, who co-founded Uber, is a proponent of premium domain names. Camp’s investment company Expa owns a number of premium domain names such as Pulse.com, Orb.com, and Reel.com. Camp also operates several companies branded around premium domains, such as Eco.com, Aero.com, and Mix.com.

Coincidentally, all of Camp’s domain names mentioned above are registered under Whois privacy protection at SafeNames. While Camp’s ownership of Range.com was never confirmed, it is notable that Range secured Range.com from the same selective corporate registrar that its investor Garrett Camp uses.

Moving away from Pylon to rebrand to Range with Range.com will offer this fintech brand the opportunity to set up shop and attract clients while operating on a trusted premium .com domain.
