Twins Christian and Rasmus Mikkelsen, two twenty-something entrepreneurs from New Jersey, have made thousands of dollars by publishing books on Amazon. They have turned that into a business teaching others how to do the same, focusing on making money through Amazon’s Audible network.

After early success publishing books on Amazon, the pair launched the Audiobook Impact Academy 2018, a step-by-step guide to building revenue by publishing books and audiobooks on Amazon and Audible. It builds on the sizable following amassed on YouTube combined with a widely held desire by its audience to create additional income streams.

Over the next couple of years, thousands of people joined the Audiobook Impact Academy. Ultimately, the Mikkelsen twins decided to create a standalone business with dedicated employees to help academy members. In 2020, PublishingLife was launched as a platform to do just that.

The platform reportedly gained more than 15,000 students eager to learn about making money through Amazon’s Audible network, an online audiobook and podcast platform, which has been under Amazon’s control since a $300 million acquisition in 2008.

Building on the momentum generated through its rapid customer acquisition, PublishingLife decided to rebrand, acquiring a category-defining domain name in the process.

PublishingLife acquired Publishing.com in August 2022, adopting the domain name as its brand name, too. Publishing.com joins the likes of Booking.com and Scan.com by combining a dictionary term with the .com extension to make a brand name.

According to Whois history, the domain was acquired from a privacy-protected NameSilo account that may have been operated by Curtis Phillips, the previous long-term owner of Publishing.com, who used the domain to host a free reading resource.

The rebrand was instituted quietly, with the company’s website and social media accounts transitioning to Publishing.com without a formal announcement. Archive.org suggests that the switch from PublishingLife.com to Publishing.com happened in mid-September.

The acquisition of Publishing.com by the Mikkelsen twins is a smart move that offers trust and legitimacy to existing users and potential academy students.

With several online forums, including Reddit, containing threads questioning whether PublishingLife was a scam thanks to some marketing techniques adopted by PublishingLife, the acquisition of Publishing.com helps to move away from the PublishingLife brand name while also showing the broader community that the company is serious about helping users create additional income.

Publishing.com, with its 60 employees, now helps more than 21,000 to create additional income streams.
