Newfold Digital has completed its acquisition of MarkMonitor. The $302.5 million deal was announced in September.

Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), the company that sold MarkMonitor to Newfold, announced the deal’s completion today.

MarkMonitor is a domain name registrar that caters to large brands, including Amazon and Microsoft.

In many ways, the registrar fits nicely within Newfold Digital’s portfolio of brands. Newfold owns Network Solutions and Register.com. Like MarkMonitor, these brands were early to the market and built large user bases. Today they are overpriced and haven’t kept up with much of the competition, but inertia keeps customers with them.

A complaint I’ve heard about MarkMonitor is that it keeps getting passed between private equity companies. That’s the case once again; Newfold is backed by Clearlake Capital Group and Siris Capital Group.
