Göran Marby out as ICANN CEO
Marby exits ICANN with over a year left on his contract.

ICANN announced today that Göran Marby has stepped down as CEO.
The surprising decision comes with about 18 months remaining on Marby’s contract. The contract was previously set to expire in May 2022, but the board extended the contract to 2024 in October 2020.
Marby spent six and a half years at the helm of ICANN. Like most ICANN CEOs, he had both his fans and detractors. In fact, two ICANN directors did not vote in favor of the contract extension granted in 2020.
ICANN will begin its hunt for a new CEO next year. In the meantime, Sally Costerton, ICANN Senior Advisor to the President and Senior Vice President, Global Stakeholder Engagement, has been named Interim President and CEO.
Marby will be available to consult with ICANN until May 23, 2024.
