Escrow.com reports domain sales decline in Q4, but .AI strong
Escrow company says domain transactions were soft in Q4 but .ai was a bright spot.
Escrow company Escrow.com reported (pdf) that domain name sales on its platform eased in Q4 2023, totaling $79 million. That’s down from $85 million in the same quarter of 2022, and the same amount in Q3 2024.
Q4 was the third consecutive quarter of declines for domain transactions handled at Escrow.com, following a strong Q1 2023.
The company said the median price of domains without content transacted in Q4 was $5,000, up from $4,614 in the prior quarter.
Sales of .ai domain names continue to flourish, although they remain a small part of the overall market. Escrow.com handled $2.1 million of .ai domain names in Q4 2023, compared to $1.3 million in the quarter before. It was a record high for .ai domain names at Escrow.com.
