Can AI write good domain name descriptions?

Yes, for the most part.

Here, let me create that domain description for you.

There’s been a lot of talk about AI-generated content lately, thanks in part to ChatGPT.

Domain name marketplace Squadhelp has also improved its AI content. The company is emailing domain owners to let them know about new AI-generated descriptions on their domains. I reviewed some of the descriptions they made for my domains and am impressed, but the system still has limitations.

Here’s what Squadhelp generated for StringBeans.com:

StringBeans.com is a two syllable domain which is desirable because it has an easy to remember cadence that stands out in an individual’s mind. It also helps create an easy connection with the associated product or service. This two syllable domain also has the added benefit of being short, which is desirable due to the ease of recognition and memorization among potential customers.

StringBeans.com evokes imagery of a crunchy, vibrant green vegetable, conveying a sense of freshness and health – ideal for a business related to food or nutrition. The domain could also be used for a music or entertainment business, as the two syllable cadence has a natural rhythm that is easy to remember and catchy. It could be used for a web-based business, such as an online forum, ecommerce store, or content-focused website.

This is pretty good, especially the second paragraph.

Here’s the description for ShortGate.com:

Shortgate.com is a two-syllable domain that packs a lot of punch into a small package. It evokes feelings of strength and resilience, as if to suggest that no obstacle is too great to overcome. The imagery associated with the name is that of a powerful gate or barrier that is quickly and easily opened, providing entry to a great opportunity. Two-syllable domains are desirable because they are easy to remember and are effective in conveying a message in a short amount of time. Short domains are also desirable because they are easy to type, making them ideal for web usage.

The domain Shortgate.com could be used for a variety of purposes, such as a business website, an online store, a blog, or a landing page for an advertising campaign. It could also be used for a gaming website or a travel agency. It is versatile enough to be used for almost any type of website.

Again, fairly solid. I like the part about “packs a lot of punch into a small package”, which seems correct for a short domain with two words in it.

Squadhelp’s AI also hit the mark on this description for FashionNut.com:

FashionNut.com is an ideal domain name for the modern fashionista, combining the words “Fashion” and “Nut” to create an evocative and memorable moniker. The word “Fashion” elicits imagery of the latest trends and styles, while the word “Nut” brings to mind the idea of someone being passionate and enthusiastic about something. This combination of words also plays into the idea of a “fashion nut,” which connotes something hip and edgy.

The domain is also very short, making it desirable for businesses looking to establish a memorable online presence. Short domains are attractive to potential customers because they are easier to remember and type in. As such, this domain can be used to create an online presence for a fashion designer, fashion house, boutique, or lifestyle brand. It can also be used for an ecommerce store, blog, or magazine dedicated to the world of fashion.

AI is not perfect, however. Consider this description for HireMagic.com:

Hiremagic.com is a short, memorable and desirable domain name that conveys the idea of hiring a magician for a special occasion. The words in the domain name suggest the idea of bringing magic into someone’s life or special occasion, whether it be a children’s birthday party, a corporate event, a wedding, or any other special occasion. The imagery associated with the domain name is the idea of joy, surprise, fun, and excitement associated with hiring a magician to make a special occasion even more magical.

The domain is short, making it easy to remember and easier to use. It also makes it more desirable to potential buyers. Additionally, shorter domains are more competitive in SEO rankings, making it more likely for potential customers to find the website.

Hiremagic.com could be used as a website for a magician or a business that specializes in hiring magicians to events. It could also host a database of magicians for people to search for magicians for their special events.

I understand why the AI decided to write this description, but it took the domain a bit too literally. The domain is aimed at a hiring company in general, not one specific to magicians.

I ran HireMagic.com through ChatGPT as well, and it was better:

HireMagic.com is the perfect domain for any business in the hiring industry. Whether you’re a recruitment agency, a job board, or a company looking to showcase your employment opportunities, HireMagic.com is the perfect choice. With a name that captures the idea of finding the perfect candidate with ease, HireMagic.com is sure to attract the attention of both employers and job seekers. Plus, its short and memorable name makes it easy to share and promote. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to establish your online presence and get ahead of the competition. Get HireMagic.com today!

It takes a lot of time to write domain descriptions, and it’s difficult to correlate the quality of the description with increased sales. But it’s clearly becoming possible to write solid descriptions without much human interaction. That’s exciting.
